Role Objective:

The Manager, Finance will oversee the financial health of the organization and ensure its continued viability. They shall be responsible and accountable to the CEO.  They shall ensure that all of the Corporation’s financial information is recorded accurately and timely using Accounting Standards for Non-Profit Organizations. They shall also be required to maintain all current and past financial records in accordance with all legal and legislative requirements. The Manager, Finance shall manage all employees in the Finance department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day to day supervision of staff and oversight of NIGGV finances and processes.
  • Prepare and maintain financial statements and reconciliations on behalf of the organization.
  • Provide supporting documents and working papers to support financial statements, liaising with auditors as required.
  • Lead the budget process with senior management to prepare the annual budget.
  • Work with external auditor to provide audited financial statements.
  • Provide internal in-year financial statements to report on actual results compared to budget.
  • Fulfil monthly, quarterly, annual and on demand reporting to the NIGGV Board of Directors, Ministry of Long Term Care, Ontario Health and other external stakeholders.
  • Lead the management team in developing internal financial controls that are robust and updated as necessary.
  • Participate as a key member of the Leadership team;
  • Provide functional guidance to managers and multi-disciplinary teams and committees, including project teams.
  • Use a team approach to select, develop, motivate and recognize staff achievements.
  • Conduct ad hoc data collection, benchmarking, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensure that staff work safely and in accordance with legislation and the policies and procedures of Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village.

Position Qualifications:

  • Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA);
  • Post-secondary degree /diploma in business;
  • Effective communication skills written and oral;
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills including an ability to work well with CEO, senior management and board members;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and Microsoft Office;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through vision, values and effective management of resources;
  • Minimum five years’ experience in preparing financial statements, budgets, analyzing financial and related statistical data to identify trends, relationships and opportunities – ideally within the public health care sector;
  • Advanced computer and information systems skills including excel;
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data to produce accurate, timely, concise readable reports in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to multi-task;
  • Demonstrates resilience, composure and a positive outlook;
  • Ability to engage and support employees in adapting to the scope and pace of change.

  • Willing to work the hours necessary to ensure the effective operation of the facility.
  • Prepared to respond to emergent situations.
  • This position participates in the “Manager-On-Call rotation”
